Commission to End Homelessness Releases Plan for the Commonwealth On January 11, 2008, the state’s Commission to End Homelessness officially released their recommendations for moving Massachusetts towards the eradication of homelessness in the next five years. The Commission, whose members included legislators, mayors, heads of state agencies, providers, and advocates, was tasked with developing a five-year plan for ending homelessness in the Commonwealth. Under the direction of co-chairs Representative Byron Rushing and Undersecretary Tina Brooks of the Department of Housing and Community Development, the Commission members have been meeting since July 2007 to develop this plan. The Commission’s recommendations now will go to the Interagency Council on Homelessness and Housing (ICHH) for implementation, under the direction of Lieutenant Governor Tim Murray (who also was a member of the Commission). The work of the ICHH is scheduled to begin later this month. Please see the links below for more detailed information on this plan and the next steps for its implementation. Please join us at MCH's Legislative Action Day onTuesday, February 26, 2008 for a panel discussion with the Commission Chairs, Representative Byron Rushing and Undersecretary Tina Brooks and others to discuss this plan and its implementation.
