How to find your legislator

Meeting with Your Legislator
Purpose and Goals

1. To make sure your legislator knows your concerns and the issues you want him or her to support.

2. To find out where your legislator stands on issues of particular concern such as:

  • Increasing funding for key housing, prevention, income and emergency service programs and /or protecting programs from proposed budget cuts.
  • Maintaining income taxes at current levels in order to fund critical programs.
  • Funding for the specific programs you raise during your meeting.

3. To find out what issues or concerns your legislator feels strongly about (either positively or negatively).

4. To advocate for the inclusion of YOUR priorities in his or her short list of issues to raise with leadership regarding items to include in this year's budget.

  • For Representatives - Ask that they speak with Speaker DiMasi and House Ways and Means Chair Robert DeLeo about these concerns and ask them to include these items in the House budget.
  • For Senators – Ask that they speak with Senate President Travaglini and Senate Ways and Means Chair Therese Murray about these concerns and ask them to include these items in the Senate budget.
