Welcome to the Housing and Benefits Committee Page!
For many years, the Coalition has hosted monthly meetings in Boston for those who are interested in learning more about issues that affect low-income individuals and families. Though the Housing and Benefits Committee meetings are primarily made up of organizations and individuals that provide direct services to or advocate for those experiencing economic hardship, anyone who is interested in these issue areas is welcome to attend.
A guest speaker presents on a different topic each month. In the past year, speakers have presented on a variety of issues, including: raising revenue to support state-funded human services; issues facing teen parents and families involved with the Department of Children and Families (DCF); programs such as Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI), Supplemental Security Income (SSI), Emergency Assistance, Transitional Aid to Families with Dependent Children (TAFDC), and HomeBASE; housing stabilization and supports; the federal and state budgets; and information on key legislative initiatives.
Housing and Benefits Committee meetings are a place to share resources and concerns, ask questions, and gain knowledge that will help you become a more informed advocate, provider, or citizen.
Meetings generally are held on the last Friday of each month, from 9:30 am to 11:30 am at the Church on the Hill (across from the State House, 140 Bowdoin Street, Boston, MA 02108).
