Family Shelters

Population Served

  • Primary shelter option for families with children under 21 years of age
  • Pregnant women (at any stage of pregnancy)
  • Two parent families and male headed households
  • Families with older male children under 21 years

     

Services Provided

    • A variety of settings are used -- congregate shelter, scatter site apartments and motels (if needed to meet the need)
    • Services vary by type of shelter and shelter resources but housing search is always a component
    • There are no time limits on Emergency Assistance shelter

Funding

    • Mostly paid for by the Department of Transitional Assistance through the Emergency Assistance program
    • Private donations
