Frequently Asked Questions
About Furniture Assistance
Q: Who is eligible for the Donations Assistance Program services?
A: All household’s must be referred by an organization and may be
eligible if they are transitioning from shelter into an apartment, in
a doubled up situation, have been referred by DSS, DTA, emergency shelter
or are homeless due to a domestic violence situation. If the Coalition
determines that an individual is not eligible for services, contact the
Client Coordinator at (781) 595-7570x 11 for a list of alternative resources.
Q: What is the first step in the referral process?
A: All households requesting services must have an application sent to
the client Coordinator. To access this form please click
here or request the material by contacting the office at (781)
595-7570x 11. After the application has been submitted please call the
Client Coordinator to confirm eligibility status and to schedule an appointment.
Q: Will applicants need to provide their own transportation?
A: Yes. The Coalition does not provide delivery services. The truck must
be big enough to fit all items in one trip. Individuals must arrange to
have a truck on the date and time of the scheduled appointment.
Q: Can individuals make specific requests for furniture donations?
A: We will do our best to meet the needs of each household requesting
services. We cannot guarantee specific items will be available on the
day of a scheduled appointment. The Furniture Bank does not maintain a
stock of furniture. Since items are donated to the program on a daily
basis, it is difficult to anticipate what product we will have available
on any specific day.
Q: What is the policy regarding missed appointments?
A: The Coalition receives approximately 80 referrals a day and does not
have the capacity to reschedule missed appointments. We ask that all applicants
arrive to the appointment prepared and on time.
Q: If someone has received services through the furniture bank,
can they re-apply and come again?
A: No. Unfortunately, we can only offer one appointment per family. The
Program is designed to assist individuals/families with their initial
transition. We have limited resources and our goal is to help as many
households as possible.
Q: Is the furniture new?
A: All of the furniture is donated. We receive most of the furniture from
individual families, colleges, and hotels. Although the furniture has
been used, we do not offer items that we would not have in our own homes.
The Coalition is specific about the condition of the furniture we accept
and distribute.
