The KIDZ: A Room to Grow
The KIDZ Project was created in response to the growing number of homeless children in the Commonwealth from infancy to 18 years of age. Sadly, today there are over 40,000 children without a place to call home making the average age of a homeless person in our state is only 8 years old. Throughout the year the Kids Project works to meet the immediate needs of these children and their families by organizing drives with communities, corporations, schools and places of faith. Back-to-School Project Each year many children will start the first day of school without the school supplies they need. Through the great generosity of an extensive network of community partners, the Coalition is able to distribute hundreds of backpacks overflowing with school supplies making the first day of school better for children. Thousands of children’s books are donated by generous patrons and employees of the credit union each spring. The Coalition distributes the books, ensuring that children from throughout the Commonwealth receive all of the donated books. Holiday Toy Drive Each year there are thousands of children who will not have a present to open during the holiday season. The Coalition, along with hundreds of volunteers, collect and distribute toys to those children who would otherwise not have a present to open. Through the generosity of the many corporations and donors who collect the toys throughout the months of November and December, and the numerous volunteers who sort and distribute the toys, the holiday season is a little brighter for hundreds of children.
