Finding Home

The Work of the Casa Project. Marlene's Story.

Marlene, a 63-year-old woman, experienced housing instability after a back injury forced her to reduce her work hours. After losing her housing, she spent months moving between friends’ homes and, at times, sleeping in her car.

When she was referred to the Casa Project, she had already sought help from multiple agencies but had not been able to secure stable housing.

Through coordinated advocacy, MCH worked alongside Marlene to navigate complex housing systems, restore access to applications, secure priority status, and gather the documentation required to move forward.

After months of persistence and collaboration, Marlene was offered a one-bedroom apartment. In January 2026, she moved into her new home.

For the first time in years, she was able to experience the stability, privacy, and peace of mind that comes with having a safe place of her own—something she once believed might no longer be possible.

Today, Marlene and her dog Bella are stably housed. Her journey reflects the impact of sustained, individualized support—and the importance of meeting people where they are.
