At the Massachusetts Coalition for the Homeless, advocacy is one of the three pillars of our mission. Each year, Legislative Action Day provides a critical opportunity to come together, raise our collective voice, and urge our elected officials to prioritize policies that promote housing stability, economic justice, and equity for all.

On Monday, April 7th, 2025 over 250 advocates, families, community leaders, and individuals with lived experience of homelessness joined us at the State House for Legislative Action Day 2025 to highlight the urgent needs facing our communities across the Commonwealth. From calls to increase funding for homelessness prevention to expanding access to critical supports, our message was clear: addressing homelessness and poverty requires urgent, compassionate, and systemic solutions.

Thank you to everyone who joined us, your presence, your stories, and your advocacy made this day powerful and unforgettable.

Why Legislative Action Day Matters

In Massachusetts, thousands of individuals and families are at risk of, or already experiencing, homelessness. The lack of affordable housing, combined with income disparities and limited access to essential resources, continues to expand this crisis. This is why days like Legislative Action Day are powerful, it turns lived experience into direct advocacy and places urgent community needs in front of those with the ability to act. Legislative Action Day is a powerful reminder that real change begins with policy.

Key Advocacy Issues Highlighted

Throughout the day, participants met directly with legislators to discuss MCH’s 2025 legislative and budget priorities, including:

  • The Bridge Subsidy Campaign: Supporting low-income older adult renters

  • A Statewide Unhoused Bill of Rights: Ensuring dignity and protections for unhoused individuals.

  • Improve Access to State-Issued ID Cards: Reducing barriers for individuals experiencing homelessness

More Than One Day

Legislative Action Day is more than an event, it’s a platform for lasting change. It is vital to our Statewide Systemic Change program, ensuring that those directly impacted by homelessness have the tools, access, and support to drive policies that reflect the needs and dignity of our communities.

Let’s Keep the Momentum Going

This day of action is just the beginning. Real change takes persistence, and our voices are stronger when we raise them together.
