The Birth to Big Kid Initiative

Tatiana Estrada was referred to the Birth to Big Kid Initiative during her pregnancy through East Boston Neighborhood Health Center. During her participation in the program, she received safe sleep education, essential infant items including a crib and sleep materials, and ongoing support both before and after her daughter’s birth.

Prior to enrolling, Tatiana had never heard of safe sleep practices such as the ABC model for infant sleep safety. Through the program, she learned how to create a safe sleep environment and began implementing those practices for her daughter.

Throughout her two years of participation, Tatiana also received support assessing her housing situation and completing affordable housing applications to help strengthen long-term stability for her family. As her daughter prepared to transition from a crib to a bed, the family received a toddler bed through the program’s graduation process, helping ensure continued safety and stability through early childhood.

Today, Tatiana shares the safe sleep knowledge she gained through the initiative with other mothers in her community. “Thank you to Birth to Big Kid for being part of our journey and for helping support my baby’s growth and safety,” she shared.

The Birth to Big Kid Initiative continues supporting families from pregnancy through early childhood, helping ensure that infants have a safe start while connecting parents to the education, resources, and support needed to promote long-term wellbeing and stability.
