The Massachusetts Coalition for the Homeless honors the life and legacy of William “Bill” McCarter, who passed away on January 20, 2026. For over two decades, Bill was a dedicated advocate in the movement to end homelessness. His commitment to ensuring that every individual—children, families, and older adults alike—has a place to call home left a lasting impact across the Commonwealth.

Bill played a pivotal role in advancing legislative advocacy, organizing community members to participate in Legislative Action Day, and serving on MCH’s Board of Directors beginning in 2014. He was also a passionate supporter of A Bed for Every Child, helping to mobilize corporations and volunteers to build hundreds of beds for children in need. Bill’s leadership, compassion, and unwavering commitment will be deeply missed.
